ㅤabout mantisㅤㅤmantis is bright, impulsive, and endlessly curious, the kind of person who dives headfirst into anything that sparks her interest. she’s optimistic by default, almost to a fault, and her excitement sometimes pushes her into choices that look a little reckless from the outside.she finds beauty and charm in almost every creature she meets, even the strange or dangerous ones, and her fascination can come across as odd or eccentric. her tastes are just as unusual, but in a way that makes her feel warm and approachable rather than off-putting. she lives life with an open heart, quick to explore, quick to engage, and always hungry to learn something new.because she spent so many years alone on a distant planet, her social skills can be a bit awkward or out of sync. she doesn’t always know the right thing to say, or the right moment to say it, but her intentions are usually good — unless she consciously chooses otherwise.despite her gentle, bubbly nature, she’s far from helpless. growing up entirely on her own taught her how to survive the wild, how to rely on her instincts, and how to defend herself when she needs to. she may look soft, but she’s capable, resilient, and sharper than most people realize at first glance.

✧ chromatic sight — her sight has an expanded color spectrum, which she uses to read emotional auras; perfect dark vision, too. very bright environments are a bit dizzying for her
✧ hydro-empathy — influences the water within living beings to calm, soothe, or agitate. of course, this means if a being is not organic like humans - say, made of metal, this ability does not work
✧ kinetic strike — mantis-shrimp punch; can crack armor or disrupt energy fields
✧ bioluminescence — her antennae glow according to her emotions, and can act similar to a anglerfish's lure in deep ocean environments.
✧ deep-sea adaptation — built for pressure, cold, darkness, so naturally thrives in such environments; must regenerate near ocean if she sustains damage to her body, otherwise she cannot regenerate
✧ water manipulation — to an extent. nothing crazy. mostly just manipulating hydration in the air to do small things like make water orbs, cause fog, stuff like that. it's how she manages to be out of water, but when there's a lack of humidity in the air it's really hard to exist out of water for her.ㅤalso good to noteㅤㅤ
✧ naturally skilled in hand-to-hand combat
